Back in the day if you wanted to make fun of a liberal arts education you might say something like ‘she’s majoring in underwater basket weaving.’
Read this article from the NYT to learn how weaver and artist Alison Grace Martin employs non-Euclidean geometry in her bamboo creations including versatile ‘pop-up' domes.
I can can hardly imagine that those campus wits could have imagined a day when ‘digital paramertization’ was used to ‘crunch the bamboo’s numbers’ to determine bending stress.
